Michael Brüssing
Viola da gamba


After studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart he studied violoncello and viola da gamba in Vienna and gained his viola da gamba diploma in Trossingen (Ph. Pierlot). Apart from his own Esterházy Ensemble (30 CDs recorded with music for barytone) he is member of several other early music groups. Concerts and workshops in Europe, USA, South America and Asia, performing solo as well as ensemble and orchestral music mostly of 16th to 18th century. He teaches in Vienna and Switzerland.

About The Class

In the morning there will be a group lesson with technical exercises, afterwards individual lessons for solo and basso continuo playing. In the afternoon viol consort playing and occasionally chamber music with other instruments and singers.

Suggested Repertoire

The focus is on the “typical” viol solo repertoire (from Ortiz to Abel) – the ensemble literature depends on the skills of the participants. Pre set groups are welcome.
