Beatriz Lafont
Solo singingBeatriz Lafont, originally from Valencia, began her musical journey studying Guitar and Singing at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Valencia and the Conservatorio Superior de Música Joaquín Rodrigo de Valencia. During this period, she earned accolades such as the “Public Prize” and the “Best Performer from Valencia Prize” at the V Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Luys Milán in Vila de l’Olleria.
With a scholarship from the Valencian Institute of Music, she relocated to the Netherlands to pursue both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Early Music Singing at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. There, she specialized in early Baroque Italian music performance, excelling in singing while accompanying herself on the theorbo. Her vocal training was guided by Rita Dams, Michael Chance, Jill Feldman, and Peter Kooij, while she studied theorbo with Mike Fentross and Joachim Held. She further refined her skills through masterclasses with esteemed tutors such as Robert Expert, Marta Almajano, Cristina Miatello, Evelyn Tubb, Lambert Climent, Stephen Van Dyck, Johannette Zomer, Fred Jacobs, and Margreet Honig.
Beatriz Lafont has graced stages across Europe, collaborating with ensembles including Capella de Ministrers, Musica Florea, Harmonia del Parnàs, La Esfera Armoniosa, Musica Poetica, La Academia de los Nocturnos, Le Jardin Secret, Collegium Musicum Den Haag, and Música Temprana. She has been a prominent figure in numerous festivals such as the XVI Festival de Música Antigua de Peñíscola, the XII Festival de Música Antiga: Música, Història i Art in Valencia, Fringe Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, Festival Classique in The Hague, V Festiwal Twórczosci Religijnej in Poland, Dag Oude Muziek in Bilzen, the XXV Edizione Pievi & Castelli in Musica in Italy, Cyclus Koncertu Staré Hudby in the Czech Republic, and Kasteelconcerten in Holland. Her recordings include early music repertoire with Música Temprana, Harmonia del Parnàs, and Capella de Ministrers, and she has participated in various radio broadcasts.
Her dedication to education is evident in her teaching roles, offering lessons and masterclasses in classical and early music singing in the Netherlands, Spain, and the Czech Republic. She has taught at the Conservatori Isaac Albéniz de Girona and has been an instructor at the Summer Course on the Interpretation of Early Music in Kunín, as well as the International Summer School of Early Music in Valtice, Czech Republic, since 2014.
About The Class
This class delves into Spanish, English, and Italian music from the Renaissance and Early Baroque periods. Lessons will emphasize not only technical improvement where needed but, more importantly, the stylistic nuances, ornamentation, and interpretation of the text. Each individual lesson is designed to last 45 minutes, providing focused, personalized guidance to enhance your understanding and performance of early music.
