Ondřej Šindelář
Baroque bassoon


The bassoonist Ondřej Šindelář began his musical studies at the Prague Conservatory in 2003. He continued at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the University of Ostrava, completing his education in Basel, Switzerland. After earning his first degree at the Hochschule für Musik under the tutelage of Sergio Azzolini, he shifted his focus to early music and enrolled at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he graduated in 2017. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Czech Philharmonic, while also dedicating himself to Baroque and Classical music, historical bassoons, and their repertoire.

Ondřej Šindelář is a faculty member at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts (JAMU) in Brno, where he has been teaching a course on historical bassoon and chamber music since 2020. In 2021, he was invited to teach at the Crescendo international summer courses in Tokaj, Hungary, and taught at the Summer Bassoon and Oboe Academy in Rataje nad Sázavou. He regularly teaches historical bassoon at the Summer School of Baroque Music in Holešov and the International Summer School of Early Music in Valtice. Ondřej performs as a soloist, in chamber ensembles, and with orchestras. His engagements include Czech and international historical ensembles such as Collegium 1704, Czech Ensemble Baroque, Collegium Marianum, Weimar Baroque, L’Arpa Festante, and La Cetra Basel, as well as symphony orchestras including the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), PKF – Prague Philharmonia, Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra in London, Kremerata Baltica in Estonia and Lithuania, Camerata Zurich, and the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland.

He collaborated with the publishing house Bärenreiter Praha on the publication of bassoon concertos by Carl Stamitz and Jiří Pauer. Currently, his portfolio includes the ensemble Opus Elocutio, which focuses on combining string and wind instruments in chamber music, and the wind ensemble Harmoniemusik Sesto.
