Cornelia Demmer
Lute & theorbaCornelia Demmer gained early experience in the field of early music alongside her guitar lessons, studying viola da gamba and recorder. While still in school, she completed a preparatory course in recorder with Rahel Stoellger at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) before transitioning to lute and theorbo. Beginning in 2014, she studied historical performance practice with a major in lute under Evangelina Mascardi at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, while simultaneously completing a master’s degree in musicology at the University of Basel in 2016. She serves as deputy chair of the Austrian Lute Society and is part of the organizing team for the concert series Wiener Lauten-Nächte, through which she advocates for greater public awareness of lute instruments. Cornelia Demmer is an active soloist and continuo player, performing in concerts across Europe, and has recorded Le due duchesse by Simone Mayr with Concerto de Bassus for the Naxos label.
